Galatasaray Ekmas announces its new head coach!

Galatasaray Ekmas has announced that it has reached an agreement with Yakup Sekizkök, who has been serving as the head coach of Darüşşafaka Lassa since the beginning of this season, until the end of the 2024/25 season.

"Our Men's Basketball Team, Galatasaray Ekmas, has reached an agreement with Yakup Sekizkök, who has been serving as the head coach of Darüşşafaka Lassa since the beginning of this season, until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Our new head coach, Yakup Sekizkök, born in 1980 and currently 43 years old, began his Basketball Super League career as an assistant coach at Bandırma BK in the 2007/08 season, and continued his assistant coaching duties at Erdemirspor in the 2009/10 season and at Beşiktaş in the 2010/12 seasons.

In the 2011/12 season, he won the Turkish Basketball Super League championship with Beşiktaş while serving as an assistant to Ergin Ataman, with whom he would later come to Galatasaray.

Yakup Sekizkök, who transferred to Galatasaray at the beginning of the 2012/13 season along with Ergin Ataman, began a new role that he would hold for 5 years. In his first season under our yellow-red colors, Yakup Sekizkök reached the Turkish Basketball Super League championship for the second time and experienced the EuroCup championship with our team in 2016. During his time at Galatasaray, he also served as an assistant coach for our A National Men's Basketball Team between 2014 and 2017.

Following his successful years at Galatasaray, he transferred to Anadolu Efes in 2018, where he would serve as Ergin Ataman's assistant and win 2 EuroLeague championships, 3 Turkish Basketball Super League championships, 3 Turkish Super Cup titles, and 2 Turkish Cup titles. Last summer, at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, he took the first step in his head coaching career by signing with Darüşşafaka Lassa.

Yakup Sekizkök, who achieved 9 victories in the 18 matches he played this season in the Türkiye Sigorta Basketball Super League with Darüşşafaka Lassa, will continue his career at Galatasaray until the end of the 2024/25 season, along with his assistant coaches Gökhan Turan and Aybars Aksu.
