Galatasaray submits foreign player rule proposal to TFF: Here is Cimbom's suggestion
Galatasaray has submitted a request to the TFF to revise the foreign player rule to a 10+2+2 format.
Galatasaray has submitted an application to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to reorganize the foreign player limit. It is stated that the yellow-red club conveyed its view to the TFF that the current 10+4 implementation creates difficulties in clubs' squad planning.
The application requested that the number of foreign players be converted to a 10+2+2 format. According to Galatasaray's proposal, the first "+2" quota would cover foreign players born in 2000. The other "+2" quota was requested to be applied for players under the age of 23, as determined by the TFF.
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk had also previously expressed that the foreign player rule needed to change. Buruk had argued that the current regulation creates problems, especially for clubs with European ambitions.
"I hope this foreign player rule changes. It will force the teams. The Union of Clubs should put forward its opinion. It should be put forward in terms of financial aspects and goals in Europe. Let me give an example. Last year we got Leroy Sane. Right now, if an opportunity like Sane comes along, you cannot sign him. Therefore, the regulation made is irrational for a team like us that has goals in the Champions League. There is a lack of vision in this decision. I hope there will be a reversal."
Following Galatasaray's application, all eyes have turned to the TFF's evaluation regarding the foreign player status. The decision to be made is expected to be decisive in the clubs' squad planning for the new season.
