In the first week of the UEFA Europa League, Beşiktaş was defeated 4-0 by the Dutch representative Ajax in an away match. Following the game, the black-and-white team's manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, made evaluations at a press conference.
Emphasizing that they played poorly and that the match ended early, Giovanni van Bronckhorst said, "We were very bad, and they were very good. We didn't have any good positions. We played a very bad match. We couldn't pose a threat to Ajax.
We made some wrong choices. We couldn't do what we wanted. We gave gifts to Ajax. Ajax pressed a lot. We weren't good on the left wing. We conceded goals in quick succession. We lost the ball in midfield. The match was effectively over by the 55th minute. We couldn't respond to Ajax. The match ended too early. I wasn't expecting this," he said.
"IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY"
Making statements regarding his squad selection and the players' performances, the Dutch coach said, "We have a good squad. Mustafa is one of our most important players. We also have to rotate. Mustafa didn't play well. This was important for his development. Playing 45 minutes against Ajax is a great experience for him.
I told him he would see the benefits of this. According to Ajax's style of play, we needed two number 6s. Onana is very good in training. I gave him a chance. When we lose, it's my fault.
We look at how the players feel. I decided not to play Immobile. There was an idea behind it. The result wasn't good, and that is my responsibility. I also took Rafa Silva out to rest him because we have to think about the next match," he stated.
