Goalkeeper who swallowed his tongue during match saved by referee's intervention

In Osmaniye, a goalkeeper who swallowed his tongue during a match was saved by the intervention of the referee officiating the game.

İskenderunspor and İnegölspor, competing in the TFF 2nd League Red Group, faced each other at the Osmaniye 7 Ocak Stadium.

In the 40th minute of the match, İskenderunspor goalkeeper Emirhan Seçkin fell to the ground after a challenge with an opponent, and his tongue blocked his airway. Referee Onur Bingöl, who was officiating the match, provided the first intervention to the motionless player, clearing his airway and allowing him to breathe.

After being treated by medical teams, Seçkin was taken to Osmaniye State Hospital and was discharged following his treatment.

Seçkin, who was placed under observation by club doctors at the İskenderunspor Mehmet Kurt Facilities, stated that he is in good condition.

Recalling that he does not remember what happened after the incident, Seçkin said, "I don't remember exactly how it happened. I only remember a few things when I opened my eyes in the ambulance. I think the match referee, Onur Bingöl, saved my life. I would like to thank him."

Hakan Bolat: It happened thanks to our referee brother's first intervention

İskenderunspor Club President Hakan Bolat stated that they experienced a brief moment of fear after the incident.

Noting that the first aid provided by the referee to their goalkeeper serves as a lesson, Bolat drew attention to incidents occurring in sports competitions.

Stating that the referee intervened with the goalkeeper through an instantaneous reflex, Bolat said, "As a result of his immediate intervention there, he removed our goalkeeper's tongue that had blocked his airway without needing to wait for the medical teams to arrive."

Pointing out that the Turkish Football Federation should provide first aid training to athletes and referees, Bolat said, "Today's incident officially shows how important such training is and that better things should be done without just waiting for the medical team. I am also very happy that our player's health is good, thank God. But it happened entirely thanks to this referee brother's first intervention. We all need to learn a great lesson from this."

Football referee Onur Bingöl has saved a life for the 8th time

Referee Onur Bingöl, who provided early intervention to İskenderunspor goalkeeper Emircan Seçgin, whose tongue blocked his airway during the TFF 2nd League Red Group match, said that he has encountered such a situation for the 8th time and did what he had to do.

Bingöl described his intervention to goalkeeper Emircan, who collapsed after a challenge with an opponent in the 40th minute of the İskenderunspor-İnegölspor match in the 12th week of the league, to an AA reporter.

Reminding that he has been a referee for 14 years, Bingöl said, "I am a graduate of sports sciences. I saw him fall, and when I ran to his side, the whites of his eyes were visible. I put him in the first aid position. Then I noticed his tongue and did what I had to do. This was the 8th time for me."
