A crisis erupted before the 2023 Turkcell Super Cup match, which was planned to be played between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after banners and t-shirts featuring the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, were not permitted.

Following the decision, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek and Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç met with Turkish Football Federation President Mehmet Büyükekşi in a meeting to decide whether the Super Cup would be played.
