Historic ban for Lyon manager Fonseca after head-to-head confrontation with referee!
The penalty handed down to Olympique Lyonnais manager Paulo Fonseca following his heated argument with the referee has been announced.
Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca made headlines following a dispute during last week's Lyon-Brest match.
Fonseca, who vehemently protested a penalty decision awarded in favor of Brest in the 96th minute of the match, entered into a heated argument with referee Benoit Millot. The Portuguese manager, who was shown a red card for his aggressive reaction toward the referee, was calmed down with difficulty by his coaching staff and players after the incident.
BANNED FROM FOOTBALL FOR 9 MONTHS
The disciplinary investigation launched after the match has been concluded. As a result of the findings, Paulo Fonseca has been handed a 9-month ban from football. The experienced manager will not be able to take his place on the bench until November 30, 2025. Starting from September 15, Fonseca will only be permitted to be with his team in the locker room.
