Icardi's incident had become a subject of debate: Güntekin Onay responds to Okan Buruk's criticism of the broadcaster

Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray faced off in the 18th week of the Süper Lig. The highly anticipated derby ended in a 0-0 draw. The match, which lacked scoring opportunities, left football fans disappointed.

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk stated in his post-match comments that the incident between Icardi and Djiku in the 22nd minute was a penalty, and expressed his reaction toward the broadcaster.

CRITICISM FROM BURUK TO THE BROADCASTER

The experienced manager said, "There was a clear penalty that was not called from the VAR room. It was perhaps the kind of punch you would see in a boxing ring. We learned that the broadcaster did not show it clearly either. This is a broadcast watched by the whole world. We broadcast this in many countries. Even this was not shown clearly from these camera angles. While we criticize ourselves, the broadcaster should also increase its cameras, and the footage regarding this clear incident inside the penalty area should be shown; people outside are curious too. We are always criticizing Turkish football. The mistakes made by other stakeholders also need to be criticized."

RESPONSE FROM GÜNTEKİN ONAY: IT IS FILMED WITH 26 CAMERAS

A response to these statements by Okan Buruk came from broadcaster presenter Güntekin Onay.

Onay stated, "The match is filmed with 26 cameras. The clearest angle might not have been reflected on the screen at that exact moment. The match director is not Turkish either. It is most correct to bring the cleanest and clearest image to the screen. This is a matter of angles. There are 26 cameras and they are all sent to Riva. Since the match had started, the clearest image might not have been brought to the screen. The cleanest image could have been brought to the screen later. When they do that, people say, 'Are they shoving it in our faces?' When it is not shown, they say, 'What are you hiding?' There is a bit of ill intent as well. The 26-camera match coverage is done to international standards, just as it is in a World Cup match."

"THIS VAR REFEREEING IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE"

Criticizing the VAR referee as well, Güntekin Onay said, "We couldn't understand it from the footage either. However, the VAR should have warned the center referee and waited. This VAR refereeing is not rocket science or brain surgery. The job you do is not that difficult either. All the responsibility and stress is on the referee on the field. You are sitting there in a room quietly; you don't even hear the sound of the match. The jobs of those who wake up at 06:00, take three different forms of transport, and bring bread home are difficult. You aren't even saving lives; what are you doing, anyway? You are sitting in a room for two hours."
