Ilkay Gündoğan: 'Xavi is very similar to Pep'

Barcelona star Ilkay Gündoğan made notable remarks to the French press.

In his statement, Ilkay Gündoğan said, "I am not very active on social media. Sharing my private life on Instagram is not my style. Even though many people want me to make such posts, I am not that kind of person. I want to be seen as a footballer and I focus on my job."

Touching upon the injury he suffered when he was young, Ilkay said, "At 22, I had a serious back injury and was away from the pitch for 14 months. I thought my career was under threat. I suffered a lot; I looked like I was 90 years old. I had trouble putting on my pants and socks. The injections I had were of no use. I was very worried about my career."

The successful player added, "I don't like the way modern football is becoming localized. No one looks at matches in detail anymore. The tactical work done on the pitch by players who don't stand out is no longer considered. People only look at the results and make decisions based on that."

Speaking about the similarity between Xavi and Guardiola, Ilkay stated, "Xavi is very similar to Guardiola. They grew up in the same place, received the same football education, and speak the same football language. I am hungry and I still want to learn. Barça still needs to improve. We have a long way to go."
