The Iranian footballers took the field for the ceremony carrying photos of children killed in the war, as well as damaged historical structures.

While their national anthem was played after the ceremony, FIFA President Gianni Infantino also watched the match.

Iran defeated Costa Rica 5-0 in the match, with two goals from penalty kicks by Mehdi Taremi, and goals from Mehdi Ghayedi, Mohammad Mohebi, and Ali Gholizadeh.
