Istanbul to host the 2027 European Games

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the 54th European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly held in Frankfurt, Germany. A historic development for Istanbul took place at the meeting, which was also attended by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

İmamoğlu and EOC President Spyros Capralos signed the "Host City Contract" for the 2027 European Games to be held in Istanbul. Following a speech by Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK) President Uğur Erdener and a presentation by IMM Foreign Relations Advisor Mustafa Osman Turan, İmamoğlu took the podium and emphasized the unifying power of sports.

"ISTANBUL WILL INSPIRE THE UNIFYING POWER OF SPORTS"

Stating that he is very proud that Istanbul will host the European Games, İmamoğlu said the following in his speech:

"Sports is the most powerful common language that transcends borders and ideologies. Istanbul has also been one of the important centers of sports throughout history. We are working with all our might to develop the sports culture in our city, provide support to young talents, and inspire the whole world."

The IMM Mayor stated that the 2027 European Games will be an environmentally friendly organization, noting that they are working meticulously to minimize the carbon footprint of the event.

GREAT PREPARATION FOR THE EUROPEAN GAMES 

Emphasizing that Istanbul is in cooperation with all institutions to carry out this major organization in the best possible way, İmamoğlu announced that the European Games Organizing Committee will be established soon and that a prestigious sports complex in Istanbul has been allocated as the center of this organization.

After the signing ceremony, İmamoğlu, Capralos, Erdener, and EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi officially reached an agreement for the 2027 European Games to be held in Istanbul.

Concluding his speech by touching upon Istanbul's goals in the field of sports, İmamoğlu gave the following message:

"With the 2027 European Games, Istanbul will open its doors to Europe and the world. With our rich history, unique culture, and hospitable people, we will show the world the unifying power of sports. We will be very happy to welcome you all to Istanbul in 2027."
