It was alleged he played his brother in matches: First statement from Edgar!
Edgar Ie, who plays for Dinamo Bucharest in Romania, said that the reports claiming he played his brother in matches do not reflect the truth.
Edgar Ie, who continues his career at the Romanian team Dinamo Bucharest, has denied reports in the Romanian press claiming that he played his twin brother, Edelino Ie, in his place.
Speaking to L'Equipe, Ie stated that these reports are not true.
In his statement, the experienced player said, "These reports are nonsense. They are truly ridiculous reports. I don't know where these reports came from. When I found out about this, I called my brother and he couldn't believe it. It's a really funny story. I never thought I would make the news like this."
WHAT HAPPENED?
It was alleged that the Guinea-Bissauan footballer Edgar Ie, who previously played for Trabzonspor and Başakşehir, had his twin play in matches for the Romanian team Dinamo Bucharest.
According to reports in the Romanian press, the 30-year-old defender Edgar Ie, who transferred to Dinamo Bucharest during the mid-season, sent his twin brother Edelino Ie to the team in his place after a while.
Edgar Ie, who grew up in the Barcelona youth academy, later played for teams such as Lille, Nantes, Trabzonspor, Feyenoord, and Başakşehir.
In addition to his recent decline in performance, the fact that the player did not speak English despite having played in Europe for a long time, and only communicated with players who spoke Portuguese, caused suspicions to grow.
Following these developments, the Dinamo Bucharest management requested a DNA test from the footballer. It is suspected that his twin brother, Edelino Ie, played in at least 5 matches, and if the situation is proven by a DNA test, it is expected that Dinamo Bucharest will face a points deduction and relegation from the league.
Edelino Ie, who is also a footballer like Edgar Ie and plays in midfield, has only played for lower-league teams in Portugal throughout his career.
