Izmir echoes with chants of 'We are Mustafa Kemal's soldiers'

In the second match of the UEFA Nations League Group B, Turkey hosted Iceland at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium in Izmir.

Football fans in Izmir did not leave the National Football Team alone, as they played their first match in Turkey since the EURO 2024 qualifier against Latvia in Konya on October 15, 2023.

Showing great interest in the match, fans completely filled the 20,000-capacity stadium.

On the 102nd anniversary of the liberation of Izmir from enemy occupation, sports fans from Izmir filled the stands with Turkish flags in their hands, supporting the national team with anthems. The fans made the stadium echo as they chanted 'We are Mustafa Kemal's soldiers' and sang the Izmir March in unison during the match.

Additionally, a giant Turkish flag was unfurled in the stands before the match began.

Turkey won the match 3-1 with goals from Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
