In Spain, Javier Tebas, the president of LaLiga, the organization representing the 42 football clubs competing in the first and second divisions, has resigned.
With Tebas's resignation, the LaLiga presidential elections, which were originally scheduled for 2024, are expected to be held within the year.
Spanish media reports suggest that the goal behind the resignation of Tebas, who has served as LaLiga president for three terms since 2013, is to be re-elected.
Tebas, who has stood out during his tenure for his steps regarding comprehensive monitoring of match-fixing in football, the fight against racism, the financial control of clubs, and the distribution of television rights, is expected to serve a fourth term as LaLiga president if no other candidates run in the elections, which are expected to take place before the end of the year.
It is also being commented that he chose this path to ensure that the LaLiga elections do not coincide with the Spanish Football Federation elections to be held next year.
