Jerseys worn by Messi in the 2022 World Cup to be auctioned
Six jerseys worn by Argentine star Lionel Messi, who plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS), during the 2022 FIFA World Cup are set to be auctioned.
According to a statement by Sotheby's, one of the world's leading auction houses, the six jerseys worn by the 36-year-old player, who played a leading role in Argentina's tournament victory, will be auctioned as a set in New York.
The Messi jerseys are expected to sell for over 8 million pounds.
The jersey worn by Diego Maradona during the 1986 FIFA World Cup quarter-final match between Argentina and England, which was sold under the name "Hand of God" in reference to his goal scored with his hand, had set a record for football jerseys by fetching 7.1 million pounds.
