Joint statement on the European Super League: 'We are against it'

As the repercussions of the European Super League, led by Real Madrid and Barcelona, continue, a joint statement has been issued by various organizations.

UEFA, FIFA, LaLiga, the European Club Association, Football Supporters Europe, the European Leagues, and FIFPRO have released a joint statement announcing their opposition to the European Super League.

The statement included the following: "Fans, players, coaches, federations, clubs, leagues, and everyone who loves this beautiful game are saying this loudly: There is no place for any 'super league' in Europe. What matters is sporting merit. Football is for everyone. It should be open to everyone. Earn it on the pitch."

THE EUROPEAN COURT OF JUSTICE RULING

According to the ruling by the European Court of Justice, UEFA acted in violation of competition law by blocking the European Super League project announced in 2021.

Accordingly, neither FIFA nor UEFA has the right to impose any sanctions on clubs participating in a tournament outside their own organizations.

Although the ruling has brought the potential revival of the European Super League back to the agenda, it is noted that clubs remain hesitant due to the fan backlash that occurred when the project was first announced.

In the organization, which was announced with 12 clubs under the leadership of Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, only Real Madrid and Barcelona remained following the fan protests.
