According to a report by Sözcü, the incident occurred near the school. A group of the Italian club's fans arrived in front of the school, hurled severe insults at the player, and physically assaulted him. The Italian striker was with his wife and 4-year-old son when he was subjected to verbal and physical abuse in front of the school entrance. The forward stated that he would file a criminal complaint against these individuals.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito spoke out following the attack on Immobile. Lotito said, "This happens to me every day; I have been in the public eye for 20 years. I receive death threats against me and my family every day. I am the president of a company with 8 thousand employees, and I don't make such a fuss. I will not speak any further."
