LeBron James makes NBA history

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 points on Saturday night. James, who is part of the greatest of all time debate, is looking to push his scoring record to a level that will not be broken for a long time in his 21st season in the league. 

With 10:39 remaining in the second quarter of the Lakers' game against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, James scored the basket that made NBA history by driving past Michael Porter Jr.

During the first timeout after the basket, the crowd at Crypto.com Arena gave James a standing ovation. After play stopped, a special video was shown on the giant screens for James' 40,000th point. At the end of the video, James acknowledged the celebrations and held the ball up in the air.

James had become the NBA's all-time leading scorer on February 7, 2023, by surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 38,387 points. 

The 39-year-old James is the basketball player with the most playoff minutes in NBA history and the second most regular-season games played. The star forward is also the only player in NBA history to have 10,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists.
