Legendary coach Sepp Piontek has passed away
German coach Sepp Piontek, who served as the manager of the Turkish National Football Team between 1990 and 1993, has passed away at the age of 85.
The family of German coach Sepp Piontek (full name Josef Emanuel Hubertus Piontek) announced his passing to the public. Piontek, who began his playing and coaching career in Germany and led the Danish National Team to the top, took charge of the Turkish National Football Team in 1990.
Serving as the head of the Crescent-Stars for three years during that period, Piontek remained in memory in Turkish football not only as a coach but also as the figure who laid the foundations of the system. The coach, who pioneered the formation of the modern national team structure, contributed significantly to the development of young players and the adoption of a new football philosophy.
Although he was unable to achieve a long winning streak during his tenure, he was always remembered by the football public and sports authorities as a "coach with a vision for the future."
One of the most important marks Piontek left on Turkish football was Fatih Terim, whom he appointed as his assistant. It is noted that Piontek's approach played a major role in Terim, who joined the technical staff at a young age, becoming one of the most important coaches in Turkish football in the following years. Sepp Piontek concluded his tenure in Turkey as a system builder and a figure who paved the way for the youth.
