Time magazine has named Argentine superstar Lionel Messi as its Athlete of the Year. The star player made significant remarks in an interview with the magazine, stating, 'I also thought a lot about going to Saudi Arabia.'
Time magazine announced that it has named Argentine footballer Lionel Messi as its 2023 Athlete of the Year.
In a statement from the US-based magazine, attention was drawn to the popularity of Messi, who plays for Inter Miami, with the remark, "Messi managed to do what once seemed impossible: turning the US into a soccer country."
"MY FIRST CHOICE WAS BARCELONA"
Speaking to the magazine, Messi stated that he chose Inter Miami from among various offers, noting, "My first choice was to return to Barcelona, but it was not possible. There were many options on the table. I also thought a lot about going to Saudi Arabia. I had to discuss these with my family before making the final decision to come to Miami."
Messi transferred to the Major League Soccer (MLS) team Inter Miami in July.
The Argentine star player celebrated the 44th trophy of his career by winning the 2023 Leagues Cup with his new team.
