Galatasaray was reduced to 10 men in their match against Kasımpaşa after Lucas Torreira was shown a red card. The direct red card received by the Uruguayan midfielder has caused concern among the yellow-reds regarding a potential suspension ahead of the upcoming Fenerbahçe derby.
Torreira, who fouled Thiemoko Diarra in the 64th minute of the match, was initially cautioned with a yellow card by referee Halil Umut Meler. However, Kasımpaşa players protested the decision, arguing that Torreira was the last man in the position.
Following the protests and a warning from VAR, Meler reviewed the incident on the pitch-side monitor and changed his decision. The referee rescinded the yellow card shown to Torreira and issued a red card in the 65th minute.
The suspension Torreira will receive due to the direct red card is of critical importance for Galatasaray's fixture list. If the Uruguayan footballer receives a two-match ban, he is expected to miss not only the Gençlerbirliği match but also the Fenerbahçe derby.
