Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer suffers cardiac arrest

Bournemouth and Luton Town faced off in the 17th week of the English Premier League.

MEDICAL TEAMS INTERVENED

While the match was tied 1-1, Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer suddenly collapsed to the ground. Opposing players were the first to notice the Luton captain lying face down on the pitch. Medical teams immediately entered the field and provided initial intervention.

MATCH POSTPONED

The intervention for Lockyer on the pitch lasted approximately 20 minutes. He was then carried off on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. While it was reported that Tom Lockyer is conscious, the match was postponed.

HE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR INCIDENT LAST SEASON

Tom Lockyer had also collapsed and been taken to the hospital during his team's Premier League promotion play-off final match against Coventry City last May. The defender, who underwent heart surgery, returned to football in June after his health condition improved.

Lockyer has scored 1 goal in 14 league matches this season.

STATEMENT FROM LUTON

Luton Town announced that Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest during the Bournemouth match and that the player is currently being kept under observation in the hospital.
