Mainz 05 terminates contract of Anwar El Ghazi over support for Palestine
German club Mainz 05 has terminated the contract of its player Anwar El Ghazi, whom it had previously suspended for his support of Palestine.
In a statement released by the club, it was noted that the contract of the 28-year-old Dutch footballer of Moroccan descent was terminated following his comments and posts on social media.
The club management, which had initially suspended the player following his first post supporting Palestine, had announced after subsequent discussions that Anwar El Ghazi had been pardoned.
The forward had stated in a post on his social media account two days ago that he stood by his views.
