Markus Gisdol: The red card ruined all our plans
Samsunspor manager Markus Gisdol, whose team lost 1-0 away to Başakşehir in the 28th week of the Süper Lig, said that the red card they received ruined all their plans.
Samsunspor manager Markus Gisdol spoke to the press after his team's 1-0 defeat to Başakşehir in the 28th week of the Süper Lig.
In his statement, Markus Gisdol said, "It is not easy to find the right words after a match like this; it is difficult. We performed very well in the first 30 minutes; I can say it was the best first 30 minutes we have played all season. We played against a tough opponent, and the red card ruined all our plans. As a result, we lost, and we are sad. There were two decisions regarding the match: the red card and the position where we conceded the goal. If these had not developed this way, the course of the match would have been different. Still, we fought well. I can say that as a team, we are on the right track."
When asked about the referee's decisions, Gisdol said the following:
"It is always difficult to talk about referees. The opponent raised his foot, and our player may have stepped on it unintentionally; at first, he said 'no foul.' When VAR called, I suppose he watched it step by step and gave a red card after seeing there was contact. The position where we conceded the goal was right in front of the referee's eyes. He initially called a foul, and the referee was standing very close. According to my information, VAR should normally intervene if there is 100 percent certainty in a position. Even though it was not 100 percent clear and the referee initially said 'there is a foul,' he unfortunately awarded the goal after being called by VAR. As a result, I can say these were two decisions made against us. We had to continue the match against a tough opponent with these decisions. We should be proud of the fight our team showed."
