Sports commentator Mehmet Demirkol announced his departure from the Socrates Dergi YouTube channel in a video published following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Demirkol stated the following:
"This is my final broadcast at Socrates. It is, in essence, a very personal matter. I have spent six wonderful years here. This is my decision. I made this decision four months ago and told dear Can (Can Öz). He was likely not pleased, but he understood. I am not saying this as a final farewell. I think of this place as my home and I believe I will come back. It is simply a personal decision. Thank you very much for welcoming me among you for these six years."
