Memorial service held for Franz Beckenbauer

A memorial service was held at the Allianz Arena in Munich for legendary footballer Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away in Germany on January 7 at the age of 78.

The memorial was attended by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, representatives from the worlds of sports and politics, as well as Beckenbauer's friends and 30,000 fans.

In his speech, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said, "I don't know if the angels in heaven play sports. But if they do, then in the last few days you will certainly have heard this new, slightly Bavarian voice; Let's go out and play football."

Emphasizing that people all over the world admired, respected, and loved Beckenbauer, Steinmeier stated, "With his natural diplomatic talent, he became our country's most popular ambassador."

In his emotional speech, Steinmeier said, "Thank you, Franz Beckenbauer, thank you for everything."

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness said, "You left us 12 days ago, Franz. To be honest, I miss you very much."

Many images from Beckenbauer's life were shown during the ceremony.
