Merih Demiral visits 'Grey Wolf' statue in Bolu

National football player Merih Demiral, who remained a major topic of discussion after making the 'Grey Wolf' gesture following his second goal in the Turkey-Austria match during the Euro 2024 Round of 16, received support from Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan.

Following the events, Tanju Özcan had a statue of Demiral erected at an intersection in the Karaçayır neighborhood. The national football player traveled to Bolu to visit his own statue, took photos with those around him, and signed autographs for children.

'I AM VERY HAPPY AND PROUD'

Thanking the Mayor of Bolu, Demiral said, "I am very happy and proud. The 'Grey Wolf' symbol is very important for the Turkish nation. This statue is not just about me personally, but a monument that every child of Turkey can be very proud of. I think our Mayor has accomplished something very important here."

Merih Demiral also visited the sports complex in the Karaçayır neighborhood.

'I SAW OUR CITIZENS MAKING THE GREY WOLF GESTURE IN THE STANDS'

Responding to a question from a child about the penalty imposed by UEFA, Demiral said:

"After I scored the second goal, I saw our citizens in the stands making the 'Grey Wolf' gesture. When I saw them, I felt the need to do it as well, because the 'Grey Wolf' is a symbol of Turkishness. That is why I am proud and happy. I am glad I did it."
