Merih Demiral's wife poses for a photo in front of his statue

The Turkish National Football Team defeated Austria 2-1 in the 2024 European Championship match held on July 2. Merih Demiral, who scored both goals in the match and was named the star of the game, greeted the stands with a "grey wolf" gesture after his goals.

UEFA handed Merih Demiral a 2-match suspension on the grounds that he used a political symbol.

Following the announcement of the suspension to the public, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who had announced that he would erect a statue of Merih Demiral in the city, kept his promise. The Merih Demiral statue was erected at the new intersection in the Karaçayır neighborhood on October 4.

The national player's wife, Heidi Demiral, came to Bolu with their children. Heidi Demiral posed with her children in front of the statue of her husband making the grey wolf gesture. Heidi Demiral also shared her photo in front of her husband's statue on her social media account.
