Surprise deal for Mesut Özil with 1st League team: They will collaborate

Ünal Memiç, Vice President of Central Hospital Ümraniyespor, one of the Trendyol 1st League teams, stated that they will entrust the youth academy to former footballer Mesut Özil and that with the youth academy facility to be built, they will also have a sports hotel where teams coming from outside Istanbul can train and stay.

Evaluating the new season, Memiç said, "There has been a very positive development regarding the youth academy. When we took office, our president received a call. Mesut Özil offered to use the land allocated to us to establish a youth academy facility. Of course, in the meeting we had with Mesut Özil, we also requested the following: Instead of allocating a place for you here, come, let us give you the youth academy. You organize and coach the under-19 team entirely. He liked this offer; he liked being integrated with us rather than using the land independently. Because we will be able to play the players he trains and market them. He added, 'Let us train them, you play them. You win. We have no financial expectations.'"

"MESUT ÖZİL WILL MAKE A VERY SERIOUS INVESTMENT"

Emphasizing that the negotiations with Mesut Özil are about to be completed, Memiç said, "Negotiations have been ongoing for 2 months; action will be taken after the protocols are signed. Mesut Özil will make a very serious investment here in both the youth academy facility and the pitches. Subsequently, we also had a request from him. We also want a football player hotel. Everything will be ready by next season. We want to host teams coming to Istanbul for away games by providing them with a training pitch here as well. We are looking to provide an economic input to Ümraniyespor. It can be thought of as a sports hotel where teams coming from outside Istanbul can stay and which also has a pitch where they can train."

Stating that they first discussed what needs to be done for the club to have a sustainable economy and that sponsorships are very important for football economics, Memiç provided the information, "We discussed among ourselves what we could do. As Spoint İnşaat, we first took the stadium naming sponsorship. Our stadium will now be known as Spoint İnşaat Ümraniyespor Stadium. We also took the giant screen sponsorship behind the goal and the jersey sleeve sponsorship as Spoint İnşaat."

"TUNCAY HOCA IS A BRAND"

Regarding the team's head coach Tuncay Şanlı, Memiç said, "Tuncay Hoca is a brand. He has represented us very well both domestically and abroad. He excited both the board of directors and the players in terms of the footballer and the community. Tuncay Hoca's arrival has also brought the community to a good place. We also think there is a good chemistry. The fact that we won 2 out of 3 matches is an indicator of this."

Stating that all teams in the lower leagues have the goal of promoting to the league above, Memiç said, "There is an economy to this business. One needs to create a sustainable economy, move up with slow and steady steps, and be permanent there."

Noting that as one of the clubs with the lowest budget, they are aiming for the Süper Lig with steady steps without exceeding the budget too much, Memiç said, "We have built a modest squad. We are still continuing to make transfers. But we aim to make the right transfers within our own budget."

Regarding developments about transfers, Memiç said the following:

"Under the leadership of our president Ömür Aydın, we formed a team regarding transfers. Currently, our sporting director is Murat Dizdar. He is one of the first names we put on duty when we arrived. He is a name who has served in the youth academies of Turkey's leading football clubs. Under his directorship, we prepared an action plan and subsequently reached an agreement with our coach Tuncay Şanlı. Pointing out that the way Nicolas Anelka, who left his position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Central Hospital Ümraniyespor, resigned was not pleasant, Memiç evaluated, "When we brought Anelka, there were big dreams. When we took office, we could not see anything positive he had done. In fact, 9 days after we took office, Anelka announced that he had resigned. He announced this on social media. His departure was not pleasant either. I cannot say that he met expectations after we arrived. There is no tangible reason for Anelka's resignation. He suddenly made interesting statements and announced his resignation on social media. I think it was an ego war."
