The jersey, put up for sale by Pharrell Williams’ auction house Joopiter, has been recorded as a new record for public sales of NBA memorabilia.

The jersey in question stands out as the one worn by Jordan during the third game of the NBA Finals in the 1997-98 period, known as the “Last Dance” season of his Chicago Bulls career.

Memorabilia from Michael Jordan’s ‘Last Dance’ season continue to attract the interest of collectors.

This sale surpassed the record previously set by another Jordan jersey worn in the first game of the same final series. That jersey was sold for approximately 10.1 million dollars at an auction held by Sotheby’s in 2022.

Before the auction, Joopiter expected the jersey to fetch a price between 10 million and 15 million dollars. It was stated that only a single bid was placed for the jersey before the sale closed.

RECORD RACE IN SPORTS MEMORABILIA

Although the price reached by Jordan’s jersey marks a new peak for the NBA, the overall record when considering all sports branches still belongs to baseball legend Babe Ruth.

Ruth’s jersey, identified with his famous “called shot” moment in the 1932 World Series, was sold for 24.12 million dollars at an auction held in 2024.
