Mortar and rocket attack on base housing French soldiers in Kirkuk
A mortar and rocket attack was carried out on the K1 Military Base, where French soldiers are stationed, in the city of Kirkuk, Iraq.
As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East due to attacks by the US and Israel against Iran, attacks are also continuing in various parts of Iraq.
An attack was carried out on the K1 military base, located approximately 15 kilometers from the city center of Kirkuk, Iraq. Security sources in Kirkuk reported that the base, where French soldiers are stationed, was targeted by rocket and mortar fire.
Sources stated that, according to initial investigations, there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack, and no material damage occurred. It was noted that the rockets were fired while a helicopter was landing at the base and fell outside the walls surrounding the base.
Following the incident, security forces were dispatched to the area, and strict security measures were taken. A large-scale investigation has been launched to find the perpetrators of the attack.
The K1 military base is known to have been used in the past by the US-led international coalition forces in operations against the terrorist organization ISIS.
A French soldier had lost his life
The attack in question comes after a drone (UAV) attack yesterday on a military base jointly used by Peshmerga forces and French soldiers in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq. It was announced that 1 French soldier lost his life in the attack in Erbil.
