National athletes win 2 silver and 1 bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships
National boxers secured silver medals with Buse Naz Çakıroğlu and Büşra Işıldar, and a bronze medal with Şeyma Düztaş at the World Boxing Championships.
At the World Boxing Championships held in Liverpool, England, national female boxers achieved another success. Fenerbahçe club athlete and European and world runner-up Buse Naz Çakıroğlu advanced to the final by defeating her Indian opponent Zareen Nikhat 5-0 in the quarterfinals and her Uzbek opponent Feruze Kazakova 4-1 in the semifinals. She won the silver medal after losing to her Kazakh opponent Alus Baltıbekova in the final.
Another finalist, Büşra Işıldar, surpassed her Polish and Indian opponents. She defeated English boxer Mary Kate Smith 5-0 in the quarterfinals and Australian Emma Sue Greentree 5-0 in the semifinals. She finished the championship with a silver medal after losing to Irish boxer Aoife O’Rourke in the final.
Representing Turkey in the +80 kg category, Fenerbahçe athlete Şeyma Düztaş won the bronze medal, finishing third in the world. With these results, Turkey concluded the World Boxing Championships with 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.
Olympic and world champion Busenaz Sürmeneli was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
