National wrestler Taha Akgül retires with a bronze medal
At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, national wrestler Taha Akgül won the bronze medal in the men's 125kg freestyle by defeating Kyrgyzstan's Aiaal Lazarev 7-0.
In the matches held at the Champ de Mars Arena, Taha Akgül faced Kyrgyzstan's Aiaal Lazarev in the men's 125kg freestyle.
Starting the match strongly, Taha Akgül scored consecutive points to finish the first round with a 7-0 lead.
Giving his opponent no chance to gain the upper hand in the second round, Akgül left the mat with a 7-0 victory to win the bronze medal.
TAHA AKGÜL RETIRES
After winning the bronze medal by defeating Aiaal Lazarev, Taha Akgül announced his retirement by taking off his shoes on the mat following the match.
The 33-year-old athlete bid farewell to wrestling amidst the applause of the spectators filling the arena.
Having won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Taha Akgül reached his third Olympic medal in Paris.
Throughout his career, Akgül became a 3-time world champion and an 11-time European champion.
