New destination for Galatasaray legend revealed
Galatasaray legend Tugay Kerimoğlu has been appointed as the Sporting Director of Miracle Değirmenlik Sports Club, one of the football clubs in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Experienced football figure Tugay Kerimoğlu, who grew up in the Galatasaray youth academy, rose to the National Team, and played for Glasgow Rangers and Blackburn Rovers in Europe, has been appointed as the Sporting Director of Miracle Değirmenlik Sports Club, one of the football clubs in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Stating that they had been in talks with Tugay Kerimoğlu for a long time, Club President Hakan Törehan said, “As a result of the agreement, we have brought Tugay Kerimoğlu on board as the Sporting Director for the Miracle Değirmenlik Sports Club team. He will arrive in Cyprus on January 30 and join the team. We will hold a press conference as soon as Mr. Kerimoğlu arrives. May this be beneficial for our country's football and our club.”
Commenting on the agreement, Kerimoğlu said, “First of all, I would like it to be known that I am happy to be returning to the pitch. Miracle Değirmenlik Sports Club is quite remarkable with its professional and innovative management. Our President, Mr. Hakan, and our Vice President, Ebru Törehan, are approaching football with a completely new perspective. This is the biggest factor in my acceptance of the Sporting Director role. Miracle Değirmenlik Sports Club is a rising value in Cyprus football, and I am happy and proud to be a part of it.”
TUGAY KERİMOĞLU'S CAREER
Tugay Kerimoğlu, who began his football career at Galatasaray, subsequently played for Glasgow Rangers and Blackburn Rovers, respectively. The experienced football figure's career includes a total of 17 trophies, including 7 league titles, 1 UEFA Cup, 4 Turkish Cups, 2 Turkish Super Cups, 1 English League title, and 2 Scottish League Cups.
Following his professional football career, Kerimoğlu began his coaching journey in 2009 by taking on an assistant coaching role at Manchester City, and later served as youth development coordinator and assistant coach at Galatasaray. The 53-year-old experienced figure most recently served as the manager of Şanlıurfaspor in the 2015-16 season.
