New move by the terrorist organization PKK: They have formed a so-called national football team

The SDF, which has not handed over the regions it occupies in northern Syria to the Damascus administration, has established a new structure under the name "Rojava Football Federation." It has been announced that the federation has become a member of CONIFA, an organization outside of FIFA, and is preparing to participate in international tournaments for the first time under the name "Rojava National Team."

New move by the terrorist organization PKK: They have formed a so-called national football team

Following the civil war that began in 2011, most of the conflicts in Syria ended in 2024 as the Bashar al-Assad administration regained control. However, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian branch of the terrorist organization PKK, did not hand over the northern regions it seized during the war to the Damascus administration.

The SDF, which has created a so-called autonomous structure in these regions using the name "Rojava," has recently accelerated its search for international legitimacy. Attempting to establish a presence through local administrative structures and cultural institutions it has founded, the SDF has now made a new attempt through sports.

"ROJAVA FOOTBALL FEDERATION" OFFICIALLY ESTABLISHED

The so-called "Rojava Football Federation," established in the regions under SDF control, applied for membership to the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA), which represents regions not affiliated with FIFA.

It was reported that the application was accepted following an evaluation by the confederation.

In a statement on CONIFA's official website, it was announced that the "Rojava National Team" had joined the confederation, with the following remarks:

"CONIFA is proud to introduce one of its newest members. We welcome the Rojava Football Federation to our global family of sport and friendship."

"A FIRST IN ROJAVA FOOTBALL HISTORY"

Speaking on behalf of the federation, the team manager, codenamed "Cudi Efrin," made statements to Rudaw television, which is known for its proximity to Barzani.

Efrin stated, "For the first time in our history, we will participate in an international tournament. All of our players are from Rojava but live in the diaspora. By joining CONIFA, we want to take Rojava football to higher levels and introduce it to the world."

TEAM FORMED FROM THE DIASPORA

Cudi Efrin stated that in the first stage, the "Rojava National Team" squad would consist entirely of Rojava football players living in Europe and other countries.

According to Efrin's statement, there are plans to include Kurdish players from cities within the Rojava region in the squad in the future.

THEY ALSO OPENED THEIR OWN STADIUM

With the establishment of the so-called "Rojava Football Federation," a new stadium was also opened for service in the region. The opening was held with the participation of local administrators and representatives of institutions under SDF control.

WHAT IS CONIFA?

CONIFA (Confederation of Independent Football Associations) is an international organization that brings together football federations belonging to regions, unrecognized states, autonomous regions, minority communities, and peoples with a national identity that are not affiliated with FIFA.
