New record for Okan Buruk at Galatasaray! He has surpassed Fatih Terim
Reaching 1481 days at the helm of Galatasaray, Okan Buruk has surpassed Fatih Terim to become the longest-serving manager in a single tenure in the club's history.
Okan Buruk, who has etched his name into club history with consecutive championships at Galatasaray, has crossed another milestone with the yellow-reds. Appointed as manager on June 23, 2022, Buruk has reached his 1481st day in charge of Galatasaray.
With this duration, Buruk has surpassed Fatih Terim, who managed Galatasaray for 1480 days during his tenure between December 22, 2017, and January 10, 2022. Thus, the experienced manager has become the longest-serving coach in a single tenure at the yellow-red club.
Buruk also achieved a significant milestone with the league title won in the 2025-2026 season. By leading Galatasaray to their 4th consecutive Trendyol Süper Lig championship, Buruk matched the streak achieved by Fatih Terim between 1996 and 2000.
Okan Buruk, who will enter his 5th season with the yellow-reds, has set his sights on raising the bar even higher. If Buruk secures the title in the 2026-2027 season, he will become the first manager to reach 5 consecutive championships in the Süper Lig.
A TENURE DEFINED BY RECORDS
Okan Buruk has won 6 trophies in his Galatasaray career so far. Having experienced 4 Süper Lig championships at the helm of the yellow-red team, Buruk has also secured one Turkish Cup and one TFF Süper Cup victory.
Galatasaray has played 203 official matches under Buruk's management. In these encounters, the yellow-reds recorded 144 wins, 28 draws, and 31 losses. During this period, the team scored 457 goals while conceding 212.
This 203-match tally does not include the matches won by default against Gaziantep FK and Hatayspor, who withdrew from the league in the 2022-2023 season due to the February 6, 2023 earthquakes.
One of the standout records of Buruk's Galatasaray era came in the 2023-2024 season. The yellow-reds collected 102 points with 33 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses in 38 matches, becoming the first team in Süper Lig history to reach triple-digit points.
In the same season, Galatasaray also earned the title of the team with the most wins in a single season in the league. Buruk's students also broke a record in this area by winning 17 consecutive league matches between weeks 20 and 36 of the 2023-2024 season.
Away performance was also among the notable highlights of the Buruk era. Galatasaray achieved 17 consecutive away victories in a period that began with the Trabzonspor away match in the 2023-2024 season and ended with the RAMS Başakşehir match in the 2024-2025 season.
Okan Buruk also became the fastest manager to reach 50 away wins in Süper Lig history. Achieving his 50th victory in his 64th away match at the helm of Galatasaray, Buruk surpassed Fatih Terim, Gordon Milne, and Şenol Güneş in this category.
Buruk, who also sits at the top in the total number of championships as a player and manager in the Süper Lig, has 12 league titles in his career. Buruk won 7 championships as a player and 5 as a manager.
