Neymar lifts Santos' transfer ban

Brazilian Serie A side Santos has lifted the transfer ban imposed by FIFA by paying off its approximately 2 million euro transfer debt to Monaco. The financial support of NR Sports, which belongs to Neymar's family, was instrumental in settling the debt.

According to ESPN, the sanction was brought to the agenda due to the failure to make the final payment remaining from Jean Lucas' transfer fee. Monaco applied to FIFA after failing to collect the payment.

In May 2025, FIFA granted Santos a period of 45 days to settle the debt, along with 32 thousand 876 euros in interest. It was reported that if the payment was not made, the club would be prevented from registering new players.

Santos announced that the debt was paid with the direct financial support of NR Sports, which was founded by Neymar's family in 2006. As part of the agreement between the club and the company, a joint effort will be carried out to market unsold sponsorship spaces on the Santos jersey.

With the payment completed, the Brazilian representative has regained the right to make transfers and register the players it adds to its squad. Following the lifting of the ban, it is stated that Santos has also taken action again for 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo, who left Juventus.
