The contest ended in a 3-3 draw. Manchester City took the lead in the 2nd minute through Bernardo. Real Madrid responded quickly, taking the lead in the 12th and 14th minutes with an own goal by Ruben Dias and a strike from Rodrygo.

Manchester City, performing better in the second half, regained the lead with stylish goals from outside the penalty area by Foden in the 66th minute and Gvardiol in the 71st minute.

In the 79th minute, Valverde leveled the score again with a goal worthy of the night. No further goals were scored in the remainder of the match, and with the 3-3 draw, Manchester City heads into the home leg with a slight advantage.
