With 3 weeks remaining in the Süper Lig and preparing for a fourth consecutive championship by widening the point gap with their closest rival Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray is shaping its transfer list for next season. A surprise offer has come to the agenda in the search for a midfielder to fill the void left by Dries Mertens.
Polish footballer Sebastian Szymanski, who transferred from Fenerbahçe to the French club Rennes for 9.5 million euros during the 2024 winter transfer window, was offered to Galatasaray through his representatives. The 26-year-old player has recorded 1 goal and 3 assists in the matches he played in Ligue 1.
HE HAD ALMOST JOINED GALATASARAY
Szymanski, whom Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk also wanted to sign in the past, had signed with the yellow-navies in the summer of 2023 following a swift move by Fenerbahçe. At the time, Fenerbahçe executive Selahattin Baki had highlighted this transfer with the words, "We took him from the heart of Florya."
Now, the fact that Szymanski has been offered to Galatasaray could add a new dimension to the rivalry between the arch-rivals. The yellow-red management has left the decision-making authority regarding the transfer offer to their head coach, Okan Buruk. The roadmap for the transfer will be determined in line with Buruk's wishes.
The Galatasaray management continues its contacts to strengthen its squad for the new season. In particular, the reinforcements to be made for the number 10 position have raised the expectations of the fans.
