Okan Buruk's Super Cup statement: Why didn't Galatasaray kick the ball out?

The 2023 Super Cup match was marked by Fenerbahçe's withdrawal from the pitch.

While it was alleged that before the match, Kerem Aktürkoğlu went to Fenerbahçe U19 team captain Emirhan Arkutcu and said, "we will kick the ball out for a throw-in," Arkutcu, speaking to Milliyet, said, "Kerem told me they would kick the ball out, but they didn't do it. They even celebrated after scoring the goal. They deceived us."

Before the kickoff following the goal, the Fenerbahçe U19 team withdrew from the pitch and the Super Cup match was abandoned.

On the other hand, Galatasaray not kicking the ball out and scoring the goal caused reactions from the Fenerbahçe side. Manager Okan Buruk clarified the issue.

Speaking to Milliyet, Okan Buruk stated that they did not know what Fenerbahçe was going to do.

"WE WANTED TO TAKE THE FIRST BALL"

Buruk said, "Were they going to stand still, or were they going to score a goal and then withdraw? To see what they would do, we wanted to take the first ball with the coin toss," he expressed.

"HOW WERE WE TO KNOW"

Stating that the Fenerbahçe players first started with a moving defense and then began to press, Okan Buruk said, "How were we to know they didn't want to score a goal and then withdraw from the pitch?"

"IF WE HAD KICKED THE BALL OUT..."

Saying, "If the Fenerbahçe players had not moved at all and just waited, our players would have had no intention of scoring a goal," Buruk concluded his words as follows:

"As for why we didn't kick the ball out; am I the one protesting? We are the ones who want to play the match, and if we had kicked the ball out, we would have been supporting Fenerbahçe's protest."
