Osman Zeki Korkmaz speaks out after heavy defeat

İstanbulspor were defeated 6-0 away by Alanyaspor in the 34th week of the Süper Lig. Speaking at the post-match press conference, İstanbulspor manager Osman Zeki Korkmaz stated that even if the right behavior was displayed on the pitch, the game itself told a different story.

Noting that Alanyaspor started the match with a tough style of play, Korkmaz said, "What can be said after a match like this? One needs to analyze things. I don't believe in numbers much. I saw today that my lack of belief was justified. The score at the end of the first half was 3-0, but the expected goals at the end of the first half were equal for both teams. These numbers don't tell the whole story. If you don't put the right behaviors into practice on the pitch, no matter what the numbers say, the ball tells a different story. I have been giving this message for a few weeks: all eyes are on us. Even though İstanbulspor is in last place, it is the most talked-about team for its football. This should have been a secondary source of motivation for the players at some point. As you display this attitude, opponents also come out against you with a different motivation. If Alanyaspor had played against someone other than us, they wouldn't have come out with this level of motivation. They started the match with a tough style of play. We couldn't respond to that. In many positions, the players were in the right place, but they couldn't put the necessary behavior into practice on the pitch. We found positions to hold onto the match. We couldn't capitalize on them. We started the beginning of the second half with a different motivation. The way you miss goals and the way you concede goals can lower your motivation. We have to conduct an individual analysis. We always say that winning or losing is not important. We can lose the match; Alanyaspor has a much richer squad than us. They had great depth on their bench. We need to continue the beauty we have accumulated until today without spoiling it until the league ends.
