Pepe retires from football at 41
Portuguese center-back Pepe, who most recently played for his country's club Porto, has announced his retirement from professional football.
41-year-old Pepe, whose contract with Porto expired, has announced his retirement from football.
Starting his football career in the Alagoano youth system, Pepe went on to play for Maritimo, Porto, Real Madrid, and Beşiktaş, respectively.
Returning to Porto during the mid-season break of the 2018-2019 season, the experienced player bid farewell to the pitch after wearing the Portuguese team's jersey for 5.5 seasons.
Competing for Portugal in the 2024 European Football Championship, Pepe became the oldest player to ever appear in the tournament's history.
Having won numerous trophies throughout his career, Pepe experienced championship success with Portugal at EURO 2016. Pepe also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy 3 times.
