Qatar crowned Asian Cup champions

Host nation Qatar has won the Asian Cup, the most prestigious football tournament on the Asian continent, by defeating Jordan 3-1.

In the final of the tournament, organized for the 18th time this year by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Qatar faced Jordan.

In the match played at Lusail Stadium, Qatar took the lead in the 22nd minute with a penalty goal from Akram Afif.

Jordan, playing in the final for the first time in the tournament's history, equalized in the 67th minute with a goal from Yazan Al-Naimat.

Winning the match 3-1 with further penalty goals from Afif in the 73rd and 90+5th minutes, Qatar secured the championship undefeated.

Having won the 2024 Asian Cup following their 2019 victory, Qatar has reached the top spot in the tournament for the second consecutive time.

The champion, Qatar, received a prize of 5 million dollars, while the finalist, Jordan, received 3 million dollars.

Qatar will donate the ticket revenue generated from the Asian Cup to support Palestinians under attack by Israel.
