Racism against İlkay Gündoğan in Germany!

A survey regarding the German National Football Team conducted by the Sport Inside program, broadcast on the West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR), has drawn backlash.

The fact that one in five participants in the survey stated they would like to see more "white players" on the German national team, and that 17 percent of participants expressed that it was "sad" that national team captain İlkay Gündoğan is of Turkish descent, drew reactions from other players, primarily head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Speaking at a press conference held ahead of their friendly match against Ukraine in Nuremberg on Monday, Nagelsmann stated, "I think it is madness in itself that such a question is even asked on public television. I am shocked. We are playing a European Championship for everyone in the country. I hope I never have to read such absurd surveys again."

Julian Nagelsmann added that he finds this to be a racist attitude.

KIMMICH ALSO REACTED

German national team player Joshua Kimmich also reacted to the survey, stating that such things are completely racist.

Emphasizing that football brings together different nationalities and religions, Kimmich said, "This was not even a topic within the team. Anyone who grew up in football knows that this is complete nonsense."

Criticizing the questions in the survey, Joshua Kimmich expressed that he found the question regarding the players' origins to be wrong, and that such questions are unnecessary and absurd.

Meanwhile, in the survey conducted for a documentary about the European Football Championship to be aired on June 5, 21 percent of participants expressed the opinion that "It would be better if more white players played on the German national team, as it was in the past."

65 percent of those who participated in the survey stated that they did not agree with this statement.
