Rafael Nadal to return to the courts in Australia after a one-year hiatus

The 37-year-old tennis player, who has 22 grand slam titles in his career, said in a video shared on his social media account, "I don't think I deserve to end it this way. I have worked hard throughout my entire sports life, and for that reason, my retirement will not be at a press conference. I will work hard to end my career as it should be. After being away from tournaments for a year, I think the time has come to return. I am ready to announce that I will be in Brisbane for the first week of the season."

Nadal is expected to first participate in the Brisbane International, an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) 250 series tournament that will begin on December 31 and be hosted by the Australian city of Brisbane. The 2024 Australian Open, where the Spanish tennis player has won the trophy twice in singles, will be held from January 14 to 28.

The Spanish tennis player, who was eliminated by American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open he participated in this January and has not been able to return to the courts following the injury in that match, had said in a press conference he held in May that 2024 could be the final season of his career.
