Referee referred to PFDK in betting scandal officiated yesterday's match! Former minister's brother also on the list

It was noted that Ertan Bekar, a top-class representative whom the TFF announced had been referred to the PFDK as part of a betting investigation, served at the Sakaryaspor–Manisa FK match played yesterday despite the decision being announced. Bekar's name was removed from the federation's website while the match was still in progress. On the other hand, Hayri Çavuşoğlu, a top-class representative of the TFF Representatives Board and brother of former Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, is also among those referred to the PFDK.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that a total of 42 representatives, 11 of whom are top-class, determined to have placed bets on football matches as part of a betting investigation, have been referred to the Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK) with precautionary measures in accordance with Article 57 of the Football Disciplinary Instructions. Among those referred is Hayri Çavuşoğlu, a top-class representative of the TFF Representatives Board, UEFA Delegate, former Culture and Tourism Ministry Advisor, and brother of former Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

A letter was also sent to the Spor Toto Organization Presidency regarding 33 representatives who resigned as part of the ongoing investigation to determine whether they had placed bets on football matches.

REFEREE REFERRED TO PFDK WAS ON DUTY AT THE MATCH

According to a report by Uygar Ulusan from T24, it was stated on the TFF's official website that top-class representative Ertan Bekar, who was referred to the PFDK on the grounds of betting, served as a "representative" at the Sakaryaspor–Manisa FK match, which was played in the 19th week of the Trendyol 1st League and resulted in a 0-2 defeat for Sakaryaspor.

NAME DELETED DURING THE MATCH

It was observed that Bekar's name was on the list on the TFF website before the match and throughout the first half, but was removed from the relevant section during the second half.

WHAT DOES ARTICLE 57 SAY?

"(1) Persons within the scope of these Instructions are prohibited from;

a) Placing direct or indirect bets and similar games of chance on football matches and/or any activity related to football.

b) Holding any position or having any interest, directly or indirectly, in businesses, organizations, and institutions (excluding public institutions and organizations) that promote, mediate, organize, or carry out betting or similar games of chance or similar activities or transactions related to football matches.

(2) Persons who act in violation of this shall be punished with a ban from matches or a deprivation of rights penalty ranging from three months to one year.

(3) It is prohibited to promote or advertise betting organizations not licensed by the competent authorities in any medium, including through the use of advertising boards and other equipment located in stadiums. This prohibition also includes promotion and advertising by affiliates of said organizations and in a manner that evokes these organizations. In case of non-compliance with this prohibition:

a) For Super League Clubs, a fine of 2,500,000 TL for the first violation, 5,000,000 TL for the second violation, 10,000,000 TL for the third violation, and a 10,000,000 TL fine plus a 3-point deduction for each subsequent violation,

b) For 1st League Clubs, a fine of 1,000,000 TL for the first violation, 2,000,000 TL for the second violation, 4,000,000 TL for the third violation, and a 4,000,000 TL fine plus a 3-point deduction for each subsequent violation,

c) For 2nd and 3rd League Clubs, a fine of 250,000 TL for the first violation, 500,000 TL for the second violation, 1,000,000 TL for the third violation, and a 1,000,000 TL fine plus a 3-point deduction for each subsequent violation,

d) For other leagues, a fine of 125,000 TL for the first violation, 250,000 TL for the second violation, 500,000 TL for the third violation, and a 500,000 TL fine plus a 3-point deduction for each subsequent violation, shall be imposed."
