Response from Egemen Korkmaz to İrfan Can Eğribayat!

The distressing events that took place following the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe match in the 30th week of the Süper Lig continue to remain on the agenda.

Fenerbahçe's substitute goalkeeper İrfan Can Eğribayat had reacted to Trabzonspor assistant coach Egemen Korkmaz in a post on his social media account after the match. Eğribayat stated, "He played for Fenerbahçe. Egemen Korkmaz, who is currently an assistant coach at Trabzonspor... This is what it means to betray the place where you earned your bread. It is not human to come and attack from behind while we were trying to protect our lives."

Egemen Korkmaz made a statement following the events that occurred.

"Although the events that took place saddened me deeply, due to my character, I could not remain unresponsive in the face of such a situation," said Korkmaz, adding, "As a human being, I reacted to the violence being inflicted upon a person on the ground."

In his statement, Egemen Korkmaz expressed that he did not approve of what happened during the match and that he was saddened to be in the spotlight due to such an incident.

Explaining that he felt great sorrow for being involved in such footage, Korkmaz stated that it was essential for him to make a statement so that the public could know the truth, and noted the following:

"As soon as the match ended, I sent our own players to the locker room to prevent any problems, and I remained on the pitch alone. At that moment, when I saw a person who had been completely neutralized by security personnel and was lying on the ground being kicked in the face, I showed a natural reaction and intervened in the situation. Regardless of anything, it was a major mistake for our fans to enter the pitch; however, throughout the entire process, the actions of certain players whose sole purpose was to provoke the stands, stir up the environment, and escalate the events are also present in the footage."

Responding to the social media post made by Fenerbahçe's İrfan Can Eğribayat without naming him, Korkmaz said, "The same names, after the events that took place, have this time started perception campaigns, especially through social media, using edited and cropped footage."

Korkmaz concluded his remarks as follows:

"The fact that these players are accusing me as if I attacked them from behind for no reason when there was nothing going on is nothing more than an attempt to manipulate the public and look good to their own community. Although the events that took place saddened me deeply, due to my character, I could not remain unresponsive in the face of such a situation. As a human being, I reacted to the violence being inflicted upon a person on the ground. This situation has nothing to do with colors or clubs. I have great respect for all clubs."
