Rio Ferdinand slams Mourinho after Lille match

Legendary English footballer Rio Ferdinand has leveled harsh criticism at Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho. Speaking after Fenerbahçe's elimination by Lille, Ferdinand said, "Tonight against Lille, we saw why Mourinho can no longer manage a team in Europe. Instead of worrying about the referees, we should focus on football. Matches are won on the pitch."

Rio Ferdinand slams Mourinho after Lille match

Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho reacted to the penalty called against his team and the officiating after being eliminated by Lille in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Former English footballer and football pundit Rio Ferdinand responded to Mourinho's comments.

"WE SAW WHY HE CAN NO LONGER MANAGE IN EUROPE"

According to a report in T24, Rio Ferdinand, who commented on the match for the BBC following the Lille encounter, criticized Jose Mourinho, stating:

"Tonight against Lille, we saw why Mourinho can no longer manage a team in Europe. Instead of worrying about the referees, we should focus on football. Matches are won on the pitch."

HE HAD TAKEN A DIG AT OKAN BURUK

Speaking at a press conference before the Lille match, Jose Mourinho had taken a dig at Okan Buruk while criticizing the referees, saying:

"There is one thing I am sure of, and that is that Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk does not get a card when he steps 4 meters onto the pitch, but I get a card when I am further inside. Or a player might not get a card when he punches an opponent in the face. I have seen these things. Matches played in the Turkish league are very tough on the pitch. The teams that play against us fight very hard on the field, and it is not easy to win the matches. Teams defend well and play on the counter-attack. They know how to slow down the opponent's tempo. In this sense, this is a difficult league. Honestly, when I signed the contract here, the president told me, 'This is not an easy league.' Every match is difficult, and he was right. The first week of matches I watched was enough to show me that. This is a tough league, not an easy one. And it's not just the matches you play against the teams at the top of the table."
