Rıza Çalımbay: 'Unfortunately, we are a team that was eliminated before we arrived'

Beşiktaş manager Rıza Çalımbay spoke at a press conference ahead of the UEFA Conference League match they will play against Lugano.

''Of course, playing with the same back four is an advantage for goalkeepers. We must go out on the pitch and do our best. It doesn't matter who plays. Things are not going well for us at the moment. We need to go out and win the matches.

We would have liked to come here with something to play for, but unfortunately, we are a team that was eliminated before we arrived. But no matter what, our entire goal is to win. We have no other thoughts. We may be missing players. This will also be a morale booster for the upcoming matches. We want to field the best of the squad we have and return with a victory.

We will, of course, give chances to our young friends. I also grew up in the Beşiktaş youth academy. We will play our youth players in our remaining matches. As you know, I have players who are excluded from the squad and injured. We called them up not out of necessity, but because they are good. We will make use of them in every way.

''THE MANAGEMENT DEEMED IT APPROPRIATE''

The new management, and especially Samet Aybaba and Feyyaz Uçar, have arrived. They deemed it appropriate, and they [the players] were excluded from the squad. It is too early to talk about the mid-season break. We are talking, and research has naturally begun. I am also giving my input, but it is too early to talk about transfers for now. Winning these 3 matches is more important than transfers.

When we arrived, there were resentments. We won 2 games in a row. They have reached a better place compared to before. If we can do some good things until the mid-season break, we can start the second half well.

We have planned our training camp. We were going to go to our camp, but before that, we called the TFF and asked if the date of our match was set. Because Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray are playing the Super Cup, they moved our match forward. That is why we said there is no need for us to go from there. I don't understand what criteria the friends who came up with this are using. There is no such thing as the players not wanting it.

It is natural for us to have a meal with the team. It is not right to say that we caught a new atmosphere with the departure of 5 friends. When the management was considering such a thing, it was not considered in vain. It was researched, looked into, and that decision was made. The referee incident is truly disgusting. A high-level president should not do this. I was very saddened when I saw it. Kicking someone while they were on the ground was very sad. Everyone loses, everyone wins... One needs to digest this. A friend in the capacity of a president needs to be constructive. I hope such things do not happen again."
