The European Court of Justice has ruled that UEFA and FIFA acted in violation of competition law by blocking the formation of the European Super League in 2021.
Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22 Sports, the main sponsor of the European Super League, stated the following:
"We have won the right to compete. UEFA's monopoly on football is over. Football is now free. Clubs are no longer afraid of sanctions and will be able to determine their own future."
The 12 teams from the 5 major leagues that were set to participate in the European Super League, which was announced by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in 2021, were as follows:
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Juventus, Milan, and Inter.
