Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals at Paris 2024
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be able to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games under a "neutral athlete" status.
According to the statement from the IOC, flags, emblems, and anthems belonging to Russia and Belarus will not be used at the Olympics.
Russian and Belarusian athletes participating in Paris 2024 as neutrals will be required to meet all anti-doping rules applicable to other athletes.
No government officials from either country will be invited to or accredited for the Games in Paris.
Athletes who actively support the war against Ukraine will not be permitted to participate in Paris 2024.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had called for Russian athletes to be barred from participating in the Olympics as neutrals.
The IOC had announced in October that the activities of the Russian Olympic Committee were suspended "until further notice."
